Bright Side Friday!

Well, I'm laughing right now because I looked at the stats and MANY more people read and responded to the Monday Vent blog than the Bright Side Friday blog. Is it because people are being modest? OR is it just human nature to not truly appreciate the Bright Side of life and be too focused on the things you want to vent? I know that sometimes I feel like I have WAY more complaints than good, but that is exactly what this Bright Side Friday is for. To make us stop and really look at things, and acknowledge that Bright Side of our lives that we should be thankful for.

Here is mine: My parents have volunteered to take my kids to Disney World this summer.
(My husband and I are also invited as well as my brother, his wife and their kids. - Keep that in mind for my Monday Vent!) lol

Now it's your turn!

Words That I Have An Opinion About For No Particular Reason

Every now and then, I hear someone say something or read a word that for some unknown reason gives me a response that is totally unrelated to the word. Reading Blogs, Twitter and Facebook doesn't help me quell this response! Everyone wants to get their words out and sometimes the words they choose speak louder to me than their whole thoughts. Here is a list of just some of those words and my reaction to them.

• Gah! - Not really a word, but for some reason, I find to be funny.
• Methinks - This word makes me crazy. It's supposed to be 2 separate words! Plus, it sounds like I should be wearing a powdered wig when I say it.
• Scrod - Reminds me of "scrotum". Hate this word and I will never eat scrod. Change the name of the fish and I might consider it.
• Slacks - Makes me laugh. It would be a word my grandma would say. Does anyone under the age of 50 say "slacks" anymore? If you do, please, say "dress pants" instead or else risk me laughing at you when you say it.
• Panties - I find this word irritating... wearing them sometimes is too, especially when they get in a bunch.
• Your - Makes me crazy when people really mean you're.
• Uvula - LOVE this word. People always think I'm saying Vulva. LOL
• Moist - I like saying it because people always react with a snicker.
• Snicker - Really? Did I just say that? I am embarrassed that I use that word unless I'm talking about a candy.
• Pamphlet - Awkward to say and to spell. When someone offers me a pamphlet, I feel like someone is trying to give me medical information on some embarrassing topic and they don't want to tell me directly.
• Feminine Hygiene - Could this illicit any stronger thoughts of women needing to go down there to scrub and deodorize? Seriously, it's not really an issue for most women. Thanks for making men think we all would smell like fish every day if it weren't for the daily maintenance we all must be doing.
• Crotchety - Must only be used when referring to a crabby old man.  Good idea old dude, wear boxers to give you some more room. While you're at it, make sure you hike the boxers up above your waist band and tuck your shirt into them.
• Prophylactic - I would never say this word unless I was speaking to a doctor and didn't want to sound like an idiot. Give me a slang term for it over the formal word any day.
• Penis - OK so this is really my son's word. He has told me I can't say it. I can call it ANYTHING else. He squirms if I say it. He laughs if I use any other slang.
• Feces - This is a word you hear your grandmother or doctor say. I would rather call it any of its slang including poop or poo than say feces. When I hear the word "feces" I get the image of monkeys slinging it.
• Snarky - Love the word, and I'm guilty of being snarky from time to time. It also sounds much better than being called a bitch.
• Slore - It's not a real world, but it is a combo of slut and whore. Some how sounds worse than either one. I know a few women that it fits!
• Regurgitate - Again, another word I would only use while speaking with a doctor. Just say "puke" and get it over with in 1 syllable. Vomit is acceptable too, if you feel like using up another syllable.
• Phlegm - I can picture it and it grosses me out. Plus, WHO spells a word like that? Too many unnecessary letters.
• Expectorate - Similar to my thoughts on Phlegm. Just say "spit" it doesn't sound as gross.
• Lover - I can't hear this word without thinking about the funny SNL skits with the couple that can't keep their hands off of each other. I hear it exactly how they say it too: Lovaar...
• WYSIWYG (wizzywig) - Is it really necessary to make an acronym for "what you see is what you get"? Can you sound any more nerdy throwing that un-word around?
• Shriek - Spelled too close to "Shrek" plus I want to spell it shreak.
• BOGO - It's 50% off people! Do we REALLY need a word for it?
• Gadzooks - Long abandoned and rightfully so, unless you say it and are looking for a laugh.
• Ginormous - Also not a real world. Combo of gigantic and enormous. Love when my kids say this!

So now it's your turn to tell me what words I missed. What words do you love or hate?

Monday Vent

It is time for the Monday Vent. Get it off of your chest and move on with Monday.

Here is mine: Even though I am an adult, it still REALLY bothers me that my younger brother (also an adult) is treated SO differently than I am. So much less is expected of him, and so much more is done for him. I hope that I never do that with my kids. It has been like this for most of my life and I have accepted it. But some days, it gets under my skin and I can't shake it. This is one of those days.

Now it's your turn!

p.s. I chose this photo to try and bring peace to my heart. I don't like feeling like this. I am thinking about all of the beauty around me.

Bright Side Friday!

Hello Everyone! Happy Friday!

Yes, it is back! A great place to share your Bright Side and kick off the weekend right! I know there might be things bothering you right now, but you can come back Monday if you want to vent. Today is for looking at the Bright Side of things.

Here is mine:
I have finally made myself take some time for ME! I committed to doing some sort of exercise every day in May, even if it is only 15 minutes. I am actually following through with it having done so 17 of the 20 days! Not perfect, but AMAZING for me. I have even started to notice a change in my body and how my clothes fit. I still refuse to get on the scale though! =)

Now it's YOUR TURN! Let us all share in your Bright Side and cheer you on!

P.S. This is a photo of my second born when he was just a little guy. I love this photo. It captures his personality perfectly!

Monday Vent

Some of you may have noticed that I started a Friday post where people can share something positive to kick off their weekend. Well, not to be out done by Friday, Monday is going to start up a little competition. Monday is the day that most people dread. They are crabby because it is the start of the work week, their weekend felt too short and Monday gets all the blame. So Monday, would like to help you. Every Monday, we invite our readers to come to our blog and vent! Get it all out of your system and then go and enjoy the rest of Monday.

Here is mine: I am aggravated because I keep spending time on crap that I am interested in doing and the stuff that REALLY NEEDS to be done, I can't motivate myself for. To top it off, I stayed up until 2:00 am working on the crap and had to wake up by 6:00 am to get my kids moving for school. So now I am also exhausted. I am so annoyed with myself!

Now it's your turn!

Bright Side Friday

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting a new thing, and I need your help to do it! Every Friday Venti With The Girls is going to have a "Bright Side" blog. The purpose is to kick off the weekend thinking about something positive and cheering on the positive things in the lives of others.

So, I will start:
"I have become involved in an upcoming web magazine. It could potentially bring me some really great new opportunities and a little steady income!"

Your turn!

An Evil Man Is Dead

Last night, I heard the news. An evil man was dead. He orchestrated his minions to do horrible acts and evil things. Many lives have been lost because of his orders. Our government, chose to fight, as they should. But during the hunt for this devil in human form, many more of our soldiers lost their lives, many more civilians did as well. I'm sad, while others dance in the street.

As many cheer, I watch. As many gather and sing, I watch. As I see posts such as “rot in hell” and others similar, I watch. As many others run to join them all in the celebration, I watch.

I can not bring myself to cheer for the death of one man, no matter how evil. I'm not sure why I can't. One man, that I have never met, that has commanded such unspeakable acts, and yet I can not cheer for his death. When I posted my feelings this morning, the reaction was surprising to me. Replies suggesting that I am not patriotic, I had to quickly defend myself. I am proud to be an American. I support the troops. This man needed to be stopped, but he is merely a symbol of evil. He is not THE evil. Apparently, that is good enough for most. “An eye for an eye” one post read. “Not even close” was all I could think. No act of revenge could ever make things right.

I'm sad. I'm sad that any American would cheer for the death of any man. I'm sad that his death has made him even more of a hero in the eyes of his followers. I'm sad that the death of this man will not bring an end to terrorism. I'm sad that there are 100's of others just like him willing to take up his cause and 1000's more willing to carry out the orders. I'm sad that this will certainly bring more attacks to American soil. I'm sad that so many lives have been lost already. I'm sad that we will certainly be grieving over more American deaths. I'm sad that the death of this one man won't bring true closure to anyone. I'm sad that anyone ever thought it would.
